About me
I’m an indigenous Kadazan artist from Sabah, East Malaysia, now based in London with my wife. Over the years, I’ve worked as a graphic designer and illustrator across the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and New Zealand before settling in Australia. In 2000, I returned to my village in Sabah and established my studios by the river at “Kampong Artists” and on Inanam Hill.
Artistic Journey
My time in the jungle along the Kinabatangan River has deeply shaped my work. Trekking with local hunters, I braved hungry leeches and mosquitoes to witness rare orchids, plants and wildlife firsthand. I’ve also explored the world beneath the waves through scuba diving — each encounter fueling my passion for vibrant, living forms.
Inspirations & Subjects
Wildlife is at the heart of my art: Orangutans, Pygmy Elephants, Sumatran Rhinoceroses, Proboscis Monkeys, Sun Bears, and Hornbills all feature prominently in my paintings. I strive to immortalise their beauty and fragility, hoping viewers feel a connection to these creatures and their habitats.
Medium & Exhibitions
While batik remains my primary medium, I also work with watercolour, pastels, oil and acrylic. My paintings are proudly displayed in the State Art Gallery in Sabah, Malaysia and the Thienny Lee Art Gallery in Sydney, Australia.
